University of Sheffield Studentships: Up to 60 University Studentships available for entry in 2009-10

Deadline for studentship applications to academic departments: 27 February 2009 except applicants wishing to be considered for an AHRC studentship: 31 March 2009.

The University of Sheffield, one of the top-ranked research-led universities in the UK is pleased to announce a major investment in the development of our postgraduate community. 60 University Studentships are available to students wishing to undertake postgraduate study in any Faculty of the University. The Studentships will provide tuition fees at the UK/EU rate, a maintenance grant of either £6,645 or £13,290 per annum, and a Research Training Support Grant.

Studentships are available as follows:

1. Faculty of Arts and Humanities: one-year Masters and three-year research degrees
2. Faculty of Engineering: three-year research degrees
3. Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health: three-year research degrees
4. Faculty of Science: three-year research degrees
5. Faculty of Social Sciences (including Architectural Studies and Law): one-year Masters and three-year research degrees

Eligibility:
The Studentships are available to applicants who will register on their first year of study with the University in 2009-10 on a full-time programme of postgraduate study. Awards are tenable for either one year (Masters) or three years (PhD), with the latter renewable subject to satisfactory progress.

Awards are open to UK, EU and international applicants. International applicants are only eligible providing they can demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover the difference between the UK and international students tuition fee.

Please note that in order to be considered for a University of Sheffield or AHRC studentship, you must first apply to the University for admission to an appropriate programme of study. Students hoping to apply for funding should ensure that they have an offer of a place on a postgraduate course of study well in advance of the final deadline.

How to Apply
Interested applicants should:
1. Complete an application for admission as a postgraduate student. Details of how to apply for admission can be found by following the link on the right. Applications for admission should be submitted as soon as possible. You can find a listing of all academic departments within the University by clicking on the link ‘Departments and Services’ at the top of this page.
2. Download the University Studentship Application Form and Departmental Statement from the download box on the right.
3. Read the notes of guidance carefully.
4. Arrange for two academic references to be completed.
5. Send all Studentship application material (i.e. the Studentship Application Form, two Studentship Reference Forms, and degree transcripts where appropriate) to the academic department in which you intend to study by Friday 27 February 2009 (or 31st March for Arts and Humanities applicants) at the latest. Details of departmental contacts can be found by clicking on the link on the right.

Following receipt of all relevant application material, the academic department will provide a supporting statement for each application that they wish to put forward to the Faculty Studentships Panel for consideration. The Studentship Application Form, Studentship Reference Forms, Transcripts and Departmental Statement will be submitted to the Research Office by the academic department by Tuesday 31 March 2009 at the latest.

Dalam rangka peningkatan mutu dosen, Direktorat Ketenagaan Ditjen Pendidikan Tinggi membuka pendaftaran beasiswa S2 dan S3 luar negeri untuk tahun 2009, bagi dosen tetap PTN, dosen DPK dan dosen tetap PTS di lingkungan Departemen Pendidikan Nasional. Bagi mereka yang sedang studi di luar negeri, pendaftaran dilakukan melalui perguruan tinggi tempat bekerja (diberi pengantar oleh pimpinan perguruan tinggi, baik secara individual atau kolektif), dengan kelengkapan:

1. Seperti butir 1, 3 dan 4 tersebut di atas;
2. Laporan kemajuan studi yang diketahui/disahkan oleh pembimbing
3. Rencana penyelesaian studi.

Bagi pelamar beasiswa tahun 2008 yang belum mendapatkan beasiswa, perlu memperbaharui lamaran dengan kelengkapan:

1. Form A dari Direktorat Ketenagaan Ditjen Pendidikan Tinggi yang telah diisi dengan data terbaru
2. Kelengkapan lain sesuai dengan posisi masing-masing (masih belum berangkat atau sedang studi di luar negeri) yang pada tahun 2008 belum atau kurang lengkap. Untuk memudahkan, diharapkan mengirim copy baru dari kelengkapan tersebut.

Worldwide - 2009 / 2010 OFID Scholarship Award

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified undergraduate students are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship 2009/10. The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an undergraduate student from any developing country, to pursue higher education in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world. Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers – the cost of advanced professional or graduate training. The winner of the OFID Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000 The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master’s degree, or its equivalent, at an accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year 2009/10.

Eligibility
To be eligible the candidate must meet ALL of the following criteria: :

  • Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
  • Must be a graduating student with a Baccalaureate from a four-year, accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
  • Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting September 2009, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Masters Degree.
  • Must be a national of a developing country (please see list of eligible countries)
  • Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID’s core mission, such as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields.

PLEASE NOTE: Please read ALL of the directions below before proceeding with the application process:

  1. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications will be evaluated based on the information provided. Therefore, all questions should be answered as thoroughly as possible. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed on it.
  2. OFID will not consider applications received through a third party.
  3. Please do not call or email OFID to ask if your application has been received, or to inquire about your status.
  4. Please note that only the winner will be notified.
  5. All materials submitted become the property of OFID and will not be returned to the applicant.
  6. Applicants must complete the on-line application form and essay requirement, and must email the required materials to OFID’s email address provided below. All materials including the on-line application, recommendations, and other required information must be received no later than March 31, 2009.

Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund
The terms and conditions of payment will be determined in coordination with the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the institution’s own standard medical scheme.
  • A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation, will be transferred to the student’s own personal bank account on a quarterly basis.
  • Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student’s place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.

  • A completed on-line application form.
  • A scanned copy of the last university degree or certificate.
  • A scanned letter of acceptance from your chosen educational institution, confirming your admission, subject of study and duration of the Master’s degree program (must not exceed a maximum of two years).
  • A proof of meeting any prerequisites, including language proficiency.
  • A short essay – of about 250 words in English – giving reasons for applying for OFID’s scholarship, explaining your educational goals, and clearly describing how you will use the experience gained from your Masters degree studies to help in the development of your home country.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors and/or lecturers at applicant’s present university.

A scholarship application should accompany, or follow, a University Graduate Entry Application.
A scholarship application will not be considered unless and until the applicant has received an offer from Imperial College London to undertake an eligible programme of postgraduate study by 31st March 2009 (an application for academic admission must have been made by 31st January 2009).

Applicants must personally complete this form by entering the information requested in the appropriate blocks.

Applicants should normally be:
  • aged 35 or under
  • nationals of and resident in any country other than Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States and intending to return and take up permanent residence there after completion of the proposed programme of study
  • intending to study a subject that will be of significant value in aiding the sustainable development of their home country
  • of outstanding academic ability, e.g. have obtained a degree equivalent to a first class honours degree at a British university
  • fluent in spoken and written English
  • neither a current nor former employee of the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies

It is the intention that the scholarships be widely geographically distributed. In each year a large number of countries will be represented. Scholarships will be awarded to those academically qualified applicants thought best able to contribute to the development of their home country by becoming leaders, decision-makers or opinion-formers. Preference will be given to those who have not yet had the opportunity to study in the UK and NL.


Each scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, maintenance cost and a return airfare for the scholarship holder only.

Please note that an applicant must have met all the conditions for academic entry, including the university’s English language requirements before they can compete for a scholarship.

ASQRS SCHOLARSHIP INFO YEAR 2009 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

ASQ Rochester Section promotes the application of quality concepts and methodology in all professional fields through a college scholarship program. Students who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to complete and submit an application. Up to four (4) $1000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Selection of award recipients will be made by the ASQ Rochester Section Scholarship Committee based on the content of application materials and, if necessary, personal interviews. The Committee may decide to award all, some, or none of the available scholarship funds. In all cases, the decision of the Committee is final.

The awards will be presented at a lunch-time recognition ceremony at the ASQ Rochester Section Annual Conference in March. Your school will also be notified of this honor.

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible to be considered for an award, applicants must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate at an accredited college or university in the United States. The school must be a not-for-profit institution.
  • Be in the Sophomore or Junior year of studies.
  • Have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent on a different scale).
  • Be a child of a member of ASQ Rochester Section, or be a permanent resident of Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, or Wyoming Counties of New York State.
  • Submit all required application materials by January 18, 2009.

APPLICATION MATERIALS:
Applicants for a scholarship award must submit the following information to the ASQ Rochester Section Scholarship Committee:

  • A completed application form. This is the attached Microsoft Word document that can be downloaded and completed electronically.
  • An official transcript showing grades for the entire enrollment in the current school and prior college(s), if any.
  • One letter of recommendation that addresses the applicant’s character and ability. This must be from a professor or official from the applicant’s current school, or from a current or recent employer.
  • An essay written by the applicant, of no more than three pages double spaced, covering the following items:
    • Provide a definition of quality, in your own words, as it relates to products and/or services.
    • Explain how this concept applies to your life experiences (i.e. college studies, extracurricular activities, work experience).
    • Describe how you envision applying this quality concept in a future career.
    • Tell why you are applying for this scholarship.
    • Supply any other relevant information.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION MATERIALS:
The preferred method for submitting is electronic. The preferred software for the essay and letter of recommendation is Microsoft Word, although other word processing programs are acceptable. All electronic documents should be sent to bob.scholarship@gmail.com.

  • Students applying for the scholarship should send the completed application form.
  • The letter of recommendation must be sent by the person writing the letter.
